I’ve had it with the international situation regarding
Israel. I don’t like the United Nations ganging up on Israel to stop it from
building settlements in Palestinian territory, but I hate the fact that Benjamin
Netanyahu and the Israeli right wing
want to continue to build the rancid settlements. It’s a middle finger not just
to the Palestinians, but also to liberal Jews and to the rest of the world.
It’s not merely an obstacle to peace to continue building
Jewish settlements, it’s just plain unjust because the Palestinians have so
little land to begin with.
In the end, there are only two solutions to the Palestinian
problem: a one state solution, where the Palestinians and Israelis completely
share the land and create a peaceful secular state or a two state solution,
where the two parties peacefully coexist, side by side.
The right wing Jewish notion that neither solution is possible
or even desirable and that we should all be fighting with the Palestinians and
the world eternally is absolutely ridiculous. Jews have to grow up already and
learn to respect Gentiles and stop assuming that they are all anti-Semites.
On the other hand, the Palestinians must learn to accept the
fact that the Jews have a right to be in the Middle East and in a world that is
frequently anti-Semitic, there might have to be a state of Israel from now
until the end of time.
The bottom line is that both sides should cut it out already
because the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is an international disgrace. And other
ant-Semitic and anti-Muslim countries
and cultures are exploiting the conflict in order to persecute both Jews and Arabs
and/or Muslims.
If this sounds too idealistic, Mr. Netanyahu and Hamas, tough
shit: I’m sick of this issue. It’s the 21st century and it’s time to
progress.
